What is Spirometry?
Spirometry is a simple test that evaluates the functionality of the lungs. For this test you use a small device called a spirometer (derived from 'spirare', which means ‘to breathe’). The test consists of inhaling as deeply as possible and then exhaling as forcefully as possible into the device. Spirometry helps to monitor the 3 vital bodily functions: breathing, circulation & consciousness.
What is Oximetry?
In oximetry, the oxygen level in the blood is measured by a saturation meter or oximeter. This device sends a light beam, precisely limited in wavelength, through the fingertip (where a pulsating vascular bed is located) and thus calculates the amount of oxyhemoglobin. Monitoring these parameters of our health has proven to be crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic and allows us to monitor vital signs.
